Le Pif Restaurant Review:

Vintage wood rafters, exposed brick, and wines racked floor to ceiling along one wall define the warmly lit and elegant atmosphere at this inviting “bar a vin” and restaurant. The miniscule kitchen, not much larger than most New York City apartment varieties, manages to produce an array of classic French dishes worthy of the meticulously chosen French regional wine list. A cheese and charcuterie plate includes such selections as Brillat-Savarin triple cream cow and Vacherin cow cheeses that work well paired with meats like bresaola and Serrano ham. Complement pâte de campagne with the Côtes de Bordeaux 2009. The croque monsieur cut into four bite-size sections is complemented by a lighter bodied red such as the Côtes d’Auxerre. Cassoulet arrives full of tender duck and sausage, while a savory French onion soup is topped with melted Gruyère. Tartines, tartes flambées, foie gras and beef bourguignon round out the menu.
