Marston's Restaurant Review:

If Aunt Bea had set out to conquer the Mayberry restaurant scene, she would have built a charming little cottage just like this. With its railed porch, frilly curtains and dried flowers, this homey eatery exudes warmth. Otis Marston and wife Sally opened their eponymous restaurant just north of Old Town in 1988, and Jim McCardy has run Marston’s since 2001. For breakfast, the old-fashioned comfort food includes a wide selection of omelets, sourdough french toast breaded with cornflakes, and macadamia nut pancakes. Several versions of eggs Benedict, including one with pulled pork and a spicy hollandaise, are offered, too. The lunch menu features white bean chili, fish tacos, creative sandwiches, and a California orange salad (chicken, greens, avocado, oranges, blue cheese, apples and candied pecans in a garlicky dressing). All salads are served with oven-fresh cheese popovers, which are a real treat. Leave room for a traditional cobbler or the bread pudding with Grand Marnier and apricot sauce. Expect to stand in line for weekend breakfast. Also located at 24011 Newhall Ranch Rd., Valencia, 661-253-9910.
