THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mexikosher Restaurant Review:

L.A.’s first (and perhaps only) real kosher Mexican restaurant happily melds two of the city’s most vibrant cultures. Chef/owner Katsuji Tanabe (born in Mexico to a Japanese father and Mexican mother) has not only found a niche in the Pico-Robertson neighborhood, but he also cooks some of the freshest Mexican food around. Quality kosher meat makes all the difference in the tacos, burritos and salad bowls. Try birria of lamb and beef braised in dry chilies, or carnitas of beef and duck confit cooked for 18 hours. Chipotle hot wings are a good way to start; we also like the guacamole, pickled radishes hinting of cumin, and the fresh, grilled nopales salad. Tanabe is an ambitious chef, and daily specials might include deep-fried white trout, veal sweetbreads griddled with fresh onions, Cuban ropa vieja, and, on various Mondays, a hamburger comprised of brisket, short rib, chuck and beef bacon, cooked in duck fat served with onion marmalade. Oh, and the black chile-braised goat is the only kosher goat in the city.
