The Painted Lady Restaurant Restaurant Review:
A lavishly painted Victorian home, this "Lady" resides on a quiet lane just off Newberg's main street. With elaborate décor, it’s most definitely a special occasion restaurant, perfect for a romantic wine country weekend. In the dining room, chef Allen Routt offers a multi-course tasting menu (seven or nine courses) to highlight the Willamette Valley's natural bounty. Selections may include fizzy Concord grape soup; cauliflower couscous; barley risotto; slow-roasted wild steelhead; miso custard with Dungeness crab; potato-wrapped prawns; gnocchi with veal sweetbreads in a shiitake velouté sauce; salmon in a duxelle crust; and short ribs. Pace yourself for the end of the meal, where you may be served three desserts. Wine pairings highlighting local producers are optional but recommended. On warm summer days, outside seating is an extra treat. Weekly menus feature themes such as "beer," "aphrodisiac," "from the sea" and "whole pig." Service is gracious.
