Pea Ridge Kitchen & Bar Restaurant Review:

Pea Ridge was the name once associated with this area thanks to many pea farmers in the vicinity. John Peter Casey and Patrick Dunn, both alums of Leon’s Full Service, and Brian Hogan, a former owner of Shorty's, are the team behind this venture, with Dunn handling the cooking. The bar acts as the center of the simply designed space, with wood paneling and intriguing art on the walls. Find the most interesting dishes among the chalkboard specials, which will always include an intriguing vegetarian selection. We enjoyed a very fine butternut squash bisque and shrimp in a light but flavorful broth. Lunch features sandwiches, and the burger is well done; skip the fries and get it with the warm potato salad, daubed with blue cheese and cashews. Consider as well the Caesar salad dotted with anchovies. For dessert, go for the classic vanilla panna cotta. The kids' menu is thoughtfully prepared, with mac 'n' cheese made with orzo. Brunch brings fish and grits (stone-ground, from Logan Turnpike in north Georgia), a combination that's familiar to anyone from southeast Georgia, but not seen often elsewhere. Along with craft cocktails and local brews, wines are offered, but the list is short and not especially exciting. Cocktails are a focus of the bar scene.
