An offshoot of Santa Barbara's oldest Italian restaurant, Petrini's of Goleta serves Italian comfort food in a casual setting, tucked into the Calle Real Shopping Center. The original, launched in 1958, is located on a quiet side street (14 W. Calle Laureles) off Upper State. Both locations are popular with loyal patrons who go for thin-crust pizzas and classics like hearty minestrone soup, lasagna and chicken piccata with fettuccine Alfredo. Little has changed over the years. To be sure, there is better Italian food to be had nearby, but regulars like the predictability of this local institution where familiarity is the biggest draw.
