It would be easy to pass by the less-than-promising looking mini-mall in which Phillips occupies a tiny storefront. But if you did, you’d be missing this barbecue spot where homesick rib lovers from the Deep South, and converts from everywhere else, stand in line for their Styrofoam containers of smoky goodness. The beef, pork and baby-back ribs reveal just the right blend of wood smoke and seasoning, all exhibiting a great char, and separate from the bone with ease. But there's more to the menu, like the chewy, smoke-infused sliced beef links, small ends, surprisingly juicy barbecued chicken, and not-too-sweet baked beans. The house sauce just borders on spicy, so if you prefer to rev up the chile level, ask for it hot. Don’t forget dessert, such as peach cobbler and red velvet cake.
