This cozy trattoria-style venue is technically attached to Newport Beach’s longstanding Sapori Ristorante Italiano. Yet touches like a separate exhibition kitchen and an intimate bar serving up glasses of wine and Italian cocktails enable it to stand out as its own entity. Guests can watch owner and executive chef Salvatore Maniaci and his team craft an assortment of fresh-made Neapolitan-style pizzas finished off in an 800-degree, wood-burning oven. The aromatics of the white oak that fuels the oven’s flames add a sense of depth to pizzas like the traditional margherita or the Tartufo white pie with truffle cream, mozzarella, mushrooms, arugula and minced garlic. Starters such as the homemade meatballs and the refreshing house-made burrata with shaved prosciutto and arugula are bites that should not be overlooked. The dessert menu features tiramisu and caramel cheesecake, although more adventurous types may want to indulge in a Nutella pizza with fresh seasonal fruit.
