Portage Bay Cafe Restaurant Review:

An all-organic, family-friendly brunch packs this spacious, light-filled space in Seattle's University District, where the meal is treated with the respect it deserves. Visit the breakfast bar to indulge in "all-you-can-eat" options. Bananas Foster french toast is three slabs of challah crowned with sautéed bananas, plus a dose of rum and brown sugar syrup. Savory choices include the café's playful take on eggs Benedict, which features spicy black bean-pancetta cakes atop cornbread bathed in a house-smoked-tomato and saffron sauce. At lunchtime, the menu boasts a seasonally changing list of fresh salads, a rosemary lamb Sloppy Joe, and a falafel burger topped with cucumbers and served on a homemade brioche bun. Wine and beer selections are adequate. Also located at 391 Terry Ave. N., 206-462-6400; and 2825 NW Market, 206-783-1547.
