Easily the best barbecue restaurant in the Northern Virginia area, The Q Company touts meats like its baby-back ribs. Elsewhere, for example, they may have little meat and not much flavor besides the barbecue sauce. But here they’re so meaty that a quarter rack may suffice --- or maybe not as you’ll probably want to keep eating. You can drizzle one of three different barbecue sauces over the ribs, but they have plenty of smoky flavor on their own. Start with one of the interesting appetizers, and of these, we suggest the jalapeño cheese strips: chopped jalapeños encased in melted cheese and enrobed in a spring roll wrapper. Although ribs are one specialty, you may prefer a pulled pork sandwich or a smoky beef rib, along with such sides as mac ‘n’ cheese with jalapeños or baked beans. Beverages really focus on assorted brews that pair well with barbecue. The aroma of burning wood inundates the area, and if you arrive at night, management may have parked the portable wood smoker out back or lit up the front-porch fire pit. But it’s inside where the action happens.
