The historic Fondren mansion, nestled amid towering oak trees, opens its doors to presidents and priests alike. As the world-famous La Colombe d'Or Hotel, dressed with antiques and art, it also houses Restaurant CINQ, an elegant ground-floor space that's composed of five dining rooms, including the enclosed but sun-drenched Terrace room. Expect to see socialites and politicians at lunch and oil barons for happy hour and dinner. Opulent and very European, the menu matches the environs, offering caviar service and escargots for dinner starters as well as what may be the best lobster bisque in town. Yes, of course you will find Châteaubriand and roasted rack of Colorado lamb, but you'll also encounter Gulf Coast prawns with eggplant and even a Southern chicken-fried filet mignon. Expect strong cocktails and pricey bottles of wine along with a pastry tray. All in all, this is an appropriate place for special occasion meals.
