Rod Dee II Restaurant Review:

Rod Dee’s Fenway outpost sports bright colors and scattered tables, and radiates a sort of kindergarten cheer. The crowd, mostly college students, is substantial, especially at night. But service is quick, and basics like chicken satay, tofu triangles and crispy Thai spring rolls are all inexpensive. Daily specials are the real find, though. They're listed on a printed card at the register and include rarities one normally sees in Bangkok alleyways. Take a chance on one --- it's bound to pay off --- or create your own dish with a combination of beef, shrimp, squid, seafood, duck and more with or without rice in sauces such as broccoli and black bean, spicy bamboo with chili or pineapple and curry powder. There is also a nice selection of curry (think red, green, yellow and mango) as well as stir-fried drunken chicken in a spicy chili sauce, roasted boneless tamarind duck and the chef's vegetarian tofu. Alcohol is not served here, but the sweet fruit smoothies, Thai iced tea and iced coffee make up for it. Order up a fried banana topped with honey to finish a meal. Be sure to bring cash, as no credit cards are accepted. Other locations.
