THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Sailors Thai Restaurant Review:

Sailors Thai is a two-part establishment situated in a historic 1860s building, a converted sailors’ home (hence the name). Early birds know to nab balcony tables upstairs or on the terrace downstairs for harbor and quay views. All this happens within a swift sprint of the CBD making it ideal for business lunchers or people seeing the sights. Downstairs, the restaurant perpetuates the theme with colorful Thai silk-lined walls and offers Royal Thai cuisine served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The chefs’ sometimes-fiery food is assuredly good, and there is selection of elegant, spicy wines to deal with the chili heat. For two or more people, an eight-course tasting menu is available, although sometimes it’s as much fun to order several dishes to share. Watch out for crispy silken tofu filled with pork, green papaya salad, tiger prawns in red curry with lime leaves and snake beans, crying tiger marinated Wagyu beef served with a tamarind and chili sauce, or slow-cooked pork belly in a northern-style rich aromatic curry. Desserts don’t disappoint, with four caramelized coconut dumplings in pandanus pastry or sorbets of tamarind, pineapple or rosella to provide a cooling finale. Vegetarian, gluten-free and biodynamic dishes are marked on the menu. Children and tender-tongued diners need not fear. Some dishes rely more on fragrance than spice for their impact. Upstairs, Sailors Thai Canteen goes communal with a table seating 45 diners.
