In New Orleans-speak, a sandwich is a sammich. That explains the name of this place, but don't ask the owners how they came up with the most delectable sandwiches you may have ever tasted. You’ll likely spend a long time staring at the chalkboard menu --- from mini-burgers with Maytag blue cheese and smoked tomato jam, to tempura-fried lobster knuckles, and the barbecued shrimp cooked in locally brewed Abita beer, this place rocks. Flash-fried, oven-roasted Brussels sprouts pair with a spicy mayo; speaking of flash fried, the escargots are similarly prepared. Did we mention the duck fat fries with Parmesan? Wines and desserts are scarce, but there is a full bar. Go early as The Sammich tends to run out of some of its offerings.
