Selland's Market Cafe Restaurant Review:

Part restaurant, part deli, part wine shop, the casual arm of chef Randy Selland’s local family of restaurants has been an East Sacramento institution for nearly 15 years. The place is casual, the open-air dining room peppered with picnic tables and bistro sets, and diners order at the deli case and seat themselves. The food is a far cry from what can be found at other casual cafés, taking a farm-to-fork approach to cooking before it was a catchphrase. Sandwiches include a citrus-curry turkey breast with Brie, barbecue beef brisket with horseradish mayo, and a roasted pork banh mi with a tangy Asian slaw and sriracha mayo. The menu also includes entrée salads, pizzas and larger plates, the latter including chicken breast with mushrooms, wood-fired pork roast and carnitas. An in-house bakery serves up desserts, which include everything from cookies to brownies and cheesecakes to cupcakes. One of the best deals in town is the weekly dinner for two, featuring a seasonal entrée and bottle of wine for just $25. Or, grab a bottle of wine to go from the on-site wine shop, which offers wine tastings every Wednesday.
