Shokudo Japanese Restaurant & Bar Restaurant Review:

When this ultra-modern restaurant and bar first opened, people weren't sure what to make of the not-quite-traditional spin Shokudo puts on Japanese fare. It's now a must-try spot, and the crowd shifts with the time of day from shoppers at lunch, families in the early evening and pre-clubbers later at night. Try the house-made tofu, unique mochi cheese gratin and, of course, any of the fusion sushi selections: lobster dynamite roll, sushi pizza, spicy tuna on crispy rice, or balsamic beef tataki, to name a few. Grilled teriyaki entrées as well as noodle and ishiyaki options are available, too. Be sure to check the saké offerings as they always have at least one or two that are unique. The drink is served in a traditional wooden saké box atop a drift of shimmering shave ice crystals; a tantalizing yet practical presentation. Don't miss the honey toast dessert --- two thick slices of bread hollowed-out, the pieces cubed, tossed in butter and honey, then piled back into the crust along with ice cream --- an oddly tasty treat. A most important tip: The images on the menu are deceiving; the portions are much larger than they appear, so order accordingly.
