Silo1604 Restaurant Review:

The original Silo Elevated Cuisine on Austin Highway is still going strong, but the flashier offspring, located in the fiercely competitive culinary corridor that is Loop 1604 between Highway 281 and IH 10, shows signs of surpassing the parent --- or at least holding even. True, Son of Silo also offers the now-classic chicken-fried oysters, but pan-roasted mussels and sesame- and spice-coated tuna set the kitchen apart. The five-spice duck duo of rare breast and leg-thigh confit is also well executed. Shrimp and grits may be becoming old-hat, but they’re stand-out here; the truffle-oiled vegetarian risotto should please even devoted carnivores. We recommend the desserts, too, especially the coconut pie. The wine list is good, and service is swift and efficient. A weekend brunch menu goes beyond knee-jerk eggs Benedict to Grand Marnier french toast and chipotle pork tenderloin, and an early bird prix-fixe menu offers a modest selection of big plates with salad and dessert at bargain-basement prices for such elevated eats.
