Simplethings Restaurant Review:

One of the most delightful bakery/cafés in town, Simplethings excels with both sweet and savory preparations. Pies are the specialty, and our favorites include salted caramel, chocolate-peanut butter and banana cream. And solo diners can get them by the slice or enjoy miniature versions called “cutie pies.” The kitchen’s expertise, however, transcends desserts, resulting in savory potpies like chicken curry, barbecued pulled pork and portobello mushroom bathed in various sauces. The friendly staff also serves solid sandwiches, such as pulled chicken with chipotle barbecue sauce, aïoli and pickled onions on a soft pretzel roll; horseradish-accented prime rib; and a Thanksgiving dinner in a roll with cranberry chutney and jalapeño-cornbread stuffing. A few wines and craft beers are offered in the small dining room, which looks like a modern take on the small town ice cream parlor. Sit outside and watch the street scene while enjoying a weekend brunch of mascarpone-filled french toast, eggs Benedict or quinoa and eggs.
