South City Kitchen Restaurant Review:

South City Kitchen in Smyrna nurtures a suburban audience. The comfortable contemporary interior isn't quite the noise factory that the other two outposts of the place can be, a plus. Each location individualizes its dishes to some extent, and various offerings are unique. Here you'll find pickled shrimp, but served with pickled watermelon. Classics include pimento cheese, the fried green tomatoes stacked with goat cheese on a sweet red pepper coulis, the barbecued pork and the mountain trout. The company remains loyal to locally milled Red Mule grits, and the chicken is from Springer Mountain. Georgia-produced Plantation quail comes with corn spoon bread. At brunch, a variety of "Benedicts" beckon with singular authority, and the crab cake hash somewhat reflects a South City Kitchen tradition. For dessert, the pecan tart entices. The wine list has fine choices from across the wine-producing world, with many offered by the glass, but we do wish the Southern-focused restaurant would offer at least the occasional Georgia wine. Also located at 1144 Crescent Ave. NE, Midtown, 404-873-7358; and One Capital City Plaza Bldg., 33350 Peachtree Rd. NE, Buckhead, 404-815-6677.
