Southwark Restaurant Review:

About the décor & atmosphere: With different ownership, Southwark reboots a neighborhood enclave. The name, space and overall vibe remain the same. A neutral but cozy bar gives way to a larger dining area on the building’s porch, and beyond that a brick terrace for outdoor seating.

Food & Drinks: This version of the restaurant keeps the original’s emphasis on cocktails and seasonal flavors. The contemporary American cuisine brings some great ideas to the table, as in the crispy smoked potatoes with bottarga and a lobster “Caesar” salad with grilled escarole. For a main course, there might be a vegetarian option like asparagus and ramp custard with fava beans, morels and hazelnuts (a delicate spring dream) or a heartier confit lamb shoulder with “bloody” polenta and sautéed chard. Finish the meal with a fun strawberry ice cream sundae with blondies, white chocolate and cassis. Pop culture themed cocktails are fun and tasty, such as This Is Bat Country with rye, Fernet, smoked pineapple syrup and lemon. Or choose a local craft beer or one of a tailored selection of mainly Euro wines.
