THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED T-Rex Barbecue Restaurant Review:

On the western end of Gilman Street nearing Berkeley’s more industrial area, T-Rex Barbecue stands out as a sophisticated yet fun place to gather for lunch, dinner, brunch, and particularly after work. Fresh, innovative cocktails and good beers provide happy hour allure, but it’s the weekday evening food specials that really draw the crowds as nothing on the creative bar menu costs more than $6. Pulled pork nachos, smoked brisket banh mi, and smoked chicken spring rolls show off the venue’s signature barbecue in upscale fusion. Even simple snacks, such as the house-made potato chips, up the casual nosh ante here. For straight-up, American ’cue, try the ribs with spicy barbecue sauce laced with a generous amount of cayenne. In true Berkeley fashion, all meats here are hormone free, fish sustainable, fresh produce changes with the seasons, and there are plenty of options to suit all diets. The double-decker space is high and roomy, with an enormous full bar and comfortable upstairs lounge filled with natural light. Service is welcoming and efficient, and though the venue exudes an upscale vibe, it is happily family friendly.
