Tamara's Cafe Restaurant Review:

After being in its original location for ten years, Tamara's, the brainchild of Tamara Suarez, moved to bigger digs at the center of Apalachicola's charming downtown. Suarez's daughter renovated the 1920-era historic building with a whimsical décor, while the menu remains a blend of Tamara's originals such as paella or a pecan-crusted grouper with a creamy jalapeño sauce, everything served with black beans and rice. Son-in-law Danny Itzkovitz (former chef at The Soup kitchen in Savannah, Georgia) and fellow chef James Ponder (Wildwood in Crawfordville) have stepped up the sophistication level of the presentations and seasoning. Wednesday nights are the best times to take a group---it’s tapas night, with classics like shrimp sautéed with lots of garlic and a Spanish tortilla, all the little dishes very affordable.
