THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Tap Trailhouse Restaurant Review:

The Tap Trailhouse takes a step back in time to the Colonial period with its menu of “cauldron” clam chowder, chicken and barley stew, and enormous Colonial burger topped with red onion marmalade and pierced with a steak knife. At dinnertime, start with a taste of crispy fried smelts from among the “Vittles” selections, then move on to country rabbit sausage, garlicky steamed mussels or the Puritan salad served family-style with blue cheese, apples and sweet candied pecans. Arrive early to get first dibs on the juicy king cut garlic-pepper prime rib accompanied by Boston baked beans. As for the beers, there are 24 on tap featuring some lesser known Massachusetts breweries like Spencer Trappist Ale and Jack's Abby as well as other New England finds such as Atlantic Brewing of Bar Harbor, Maine, and City Steam Brewery of Hartford, Conn. Freedom Trail Ale is created especially for the restaurant by Newport Storm. If you can't decide what to order, try a four-sample flight of Massachusetts ales, Belgian-style brews or a seasonal array. For dessert, Boston cream pie arrives in a jar filled with layers of yellow cake, creamy custard and rich chocolate.
