THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Tapas Restaurant Review:

West Hartford's Tapas is an institution in the best sense of the word. Customers know they won't find better Mediterranean or Middle Eastern staples anywhere in Greater Hartford; the vegetarians among them are likewise in luck. The bountiful hummus platter with crumbled feta cheese, vine-ripe tomatoes, kalamata olives, and toasted pita wedges is a must as either a hearty starter among friends or as at least one meal in itself. The Greek salad, likewise, is another tasty and filling option whose garlicky "almost famous" dressing is so good you'll be asking for some to take home. And since they bottle it on the premises, you'll be glad you did. The falafel, gyros and souvlaki are well made too. No wonder it's tempting to stick with favorites at Tapas (excluding the tortilla-based signatures, which are like inferior pizzas)---but try to resist: the daily-changing blackboard menu lists any number of surprises made with meats and produce purchased from local markets. That's partly out of necessity; Tapas has no room for a freezer on the premises. On that note, be warned: the tables sit so close you're practically heaped on top of your fellow diners. But the awkwardness is a small price to pay for such fine fare.
