THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Tenpenny Restaurant Review:

Past the sterile white walls of The Gotham Hotel entrance lies the brick-walled, book and candle-lined comfort of Tenpenny. From a former Dylan Prime chef and Jeffrey Tascarella, former GM of Scarpetta and Faustina, Tenpenny is serving inventive food in a non-pretentious fashion---using fancy techniques one might associate with molecular gastronomy, but not advertising the science that goes into some of the dishes. Their complexity sneaks up on you. French onion soup is revelatory with Fontina foam instead of the thick, heavy Swiss layer. Baby lettuces cut with dehydrated vegetables and softened with pistachio spread. Scallops are tender and both melt and crunch beneath chanterelles and crispy chicken skin. The heritage pork rack served with a savory apple pie is just as strange and wondrous as it sounds. The joy of eating here travels with you through dessert. Try the chocolate, with nothing more than a list of components: sea salt, honeycomb and malt gelato, it's a sweet and savory way to end the meal. With a carefully cultivated wine list that leans Italian, ask your server to pull out some of the more interesting bottles to discover something new from their selection from the more obscure wineries.
