Nestled in the building that Sorrento Grill called home for 23 years, this downtown Laguna Beach restaurant comes equipped with an air of familiarity, and with good reason: Three Seventy Common Kitchen + Drink’s chef/owner Ryan Adams manned the kitchen as Sorrento’s executive chef. Adams uses his keen awareness of the kitchen as a launching point to create advanced studies in comfort cuisine peppered with an adventurous streak and plenty of playfulness. The culinary mirth starts with a bowl of daily rotating table snacks and continues through a progression of choices ranging from small bites to large. Creativity is marked throughout, from the Thai-style chicken wings and prosciutto-infused broccolini salad to the bone marrow with chimichurri sauce, and duck confit loco moco with gravy kimchee. Desserts like the family recipe chocolate cake have a warm, homespun charm. Fans of libations will enjoy the handcrafted cocktails, artisan beers and solid wine list. On the last Sunday of each month, Adams prepares a multi-course fried chicken dinner that has steadily grown into the stuff of legend.
