Yakitori Yakyudori Restaurant Review:

First things first: although Yakitori Yakyudori is as Japanese as it gets, there is no sushi here. Rather, this tiny locale is home to a long list of skewered and grilled meats. We liked the pork-shiso roll served with spicy plum sauce. The distinct flavor of shiso (Japanese basil) nicely accents the caramelized, nearly sweet meat. Other favorites include the plain but satisfying filet mignon and chicken thigh skewers. Sometimes the listings on the whiteboard menu sound strange and intimidating (for instance, “chicken entrails,” which are really just liver), but don’t be deterred. We also enjoy the crisp cabbage salad that accompanies most orders, as well as the variety of fried dumplings and the hearty Japanese porridge (a complex version of chicken-and-rice soup). It is encouraged to munch on a bit of cabbage in between dishes to cleanse the palate and be able to savor each flavor.
