| There are no tables and chairs here, but, as the name implies, plenty of beds, which is where diners recline and eat dinner off of bamboo trays. Yet B.E.D. is more than a restaurant with beds---or less, depending upon your point of view. With in-house techno music thumping away in the background and scantily-clad dancers shimmying away in cages, this probably isn't the best place to concentrate on sipping fine wines and indulging in serious cuisine. Yet, surprise surprise, B.E.D. does indeed offer a distinguished wine list, as well as eclectic, mostly Latin American and American-inspired dishes. Ultimately, the cuisine is a bit too confused (starting with the restaurant's own identification of its food as French) and needlessly complex. Additionally, entrées are too expensive to tempt a recession-era crowd mostly interested in the place's nightclub component. But for hungry drinkers there are some tasty small plates that aren't overwrought, like spicy shrimp and cheddar grits. And it's all presented quite prettily, and probably better than one should expect from a pajama-clad server. |
