: Sweet baking aroma invigorates as an artistic counter display of assorted berry- and vegetable-colored, responsibly flavored goodies pleases the eye. Chewy tropical coconut kisses are sufficiently sweetened with dates and coconut nectar. Laverne Matias' gluten-free pastry tenderly wraps an apple turnover, flavored with seasonal winter pear and house-made cardamom purée. It is also the flaky base for empanadas, quiches and comforting potpies. Patrons availing themselves of vegetarian lunches midday share the farmhouse communal table with coffee-and-cookie regulars and cake-tasting couples planning their weddings. Knowledge of and passion for the dedicated use of ancient grains is evident in the delicate kalamata olive bread with herbs and the crispy Seeds of Joy loaf, two of many bread choices. The bakery is well established at local farmers markets where many of the local, organic and seasonal ingredients are sourced. Vegan, paleo, grain-free, dairy-free, nut-free and sugarless options abound and everything is gluten-free.
