THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Back Porch Oyster Bar Restaurant Review:
Festooned with nautical iconography such as taxidermied swordfish, this casual seafood spot occupies a two-story former residence that overlooks downtown Dahlonega. We like the seating on the upstairs front porch that provides a good street view. Former chef Jason Davenport has departed the restaurant; he had managed the wine list, which is being revamped, as is the menu. But in the meantime the kitchen continues to offer gently prepared fish and shellfish. Escolar ceviche is a highlight, with its fresh avocado, tomato, yellow pepper and a citrus mirin ponzu sauce. Designed as an appetizer, it's an ideal light, hot weather lunch dish. A respectable she-crab soup makes a fine starter, or consider the cold-water raw oysters when available. Back Porch Oyster Bar is soft-shell crab central in town when they're in season. Landlubber choices are chicken, pork and beef. For dessert, get the Key lime pie.
