THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Baker & Banker Restaurant Review:

Yes, there's the innovative name, but Baker & Banker is actually a classic brasserie started by husband-and-wife (and chef-and-chef) team Jeff Banker and Lori Baker. The masculine interior, with its dark leather banquettes, caramel colored walls, gold leaf molding and vintage-style Venetian blinds, evokes a 1950s downtown eatery or an old-school private eye’s office. Chalkboards announce the specials of the day. Upon arrival, take special note of the daily glass pours --- the restaurant regularly highlights wines from its list for by-the-glass purchase. The sophisticated yet comforting cooking includes a frothy, rich Jerusalem artichoke soup, poured over a lump of velvety green garlic budino --- soothing but dazzling with its contrasting textures. Pappardelle with braised short rib ragù packs intense flavor. Desserts --- thanks largely to innovative pastry chef Lori Baker --- are inviting and traditional, and often feature creative twists, such as a Meyer lemon icebox pie with candied black olives and thyme syrup.
