 The Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club’s Baleen is nestled right next to the Pacific Ocean; the outside patio dining area looks out over the Redondo Beach Marina while the cozy, seductive interior is warmed by a fireplace. You may be tempted to lose yourself in the charm of the location with simply a cocktail and snack, but you would be doing yourself a great disservice. The extensive menu here has many treasures to be explored. Starters include crab cakes with apple rémoulade and scallops enhanced with a sweet corn cream, while main dishes range from braised short rib with truffled Asiago-potato purée to Roquefort-crusted filet mignon with demi-glace. Simply grilled steaks and seafood are offered with inventive sauces like yuzu beurre blanc and chipotle béarnaise.
