| Not to be confused with one of the many restaurants owned by Michael “Bao” Huynh, this tiny Lower East Side eatery serves up gua bao, or something like a Taiwanese burger. Wrapped in an Asian bun, the gua bao come in a couple different varieties: the ultra meaty Haus Bao, Angus skirt steak that has been marinated in 100-proof sorghum booze, and Chairman Bao, ultra-tender Niman Ranch pork belly that is cooked in cherry Coca-Cola. The pork belly bao could use more filling, but is the better of the two. There are also “fries,” which are fried buns, cut like french fries and sweetened with a drizzle of sesame sauce. |
