| Bar Italia has a chameleon-like ability to attract affluent foodies, enthusiastic soccer fans, connoisseurs of infused spirits and laid-back groups of friends. Unlike most other St. Louis Italian restaurants, Bar Italia has the pace of Italy. The interior is appealingly cozy, upstairs and down, and the large outdoor dining area is thronged in warm weather. As for the kitchen, its menu changes little. Penne appears in a cloud of garlic and mixed mushrooms, and fettuccine basks in a tasty triple-meat sauce of veal, chicken and sausage. Interesting desserts are made from authentic Italian recipes, including house gelato. The wine list is long and lovely and very heavy on Italian selections. After dinner, linger over owner Mengesha Yohannes’ house-infused grappas. |
