Bar Italia Ristorante Restaurant Review: Bar Italia has the pace of Italy, an unhurried ambience that appeals to everyone from affluent foodies to enthusiastic soccer fans to laid-back groups of friends. The interior is appealingly cozy, upstairs and down, and the large outdoor dining area is thronged during warm weather. As for the kitchen, its menu meanders across regions. Rigatoni appears in a cloud of garlic and mixed mushrooms, and fettuccine basks in a tasty triple-meat sauce of veal, chicken and sausage. There’s a Tuscan classic dish of veal and shrimp in wine sauce, and a Venetian spin on chicken breast: first it's marinated with mint and spices, then it's sautéed and served with mushrooms, raisins and peppers in a balsamic reduction. Interesting desserts are made from authentic Italian recipes, including house gelato. One nod to American tastes is the popular Cappuccino Anna, a dessert cocktail involving espresso and steamed milk layered with Frangelico liqueur, all topped with whipped cream. The wine list is long and very heavy on Italian selections. After dinner, linger over owner Mengesha Yohannes’ house-infused grappas.
