 Taking over the space once occupied by its sibling restaurant, Enoteca Carbonari, Baraonda presents a charming, casual room with warm, candle-lit brick walls and a wood-burning pizza oven. While most of the pizzas are Italian in inspiration---we recommend the prosciutto and arugula---there is the American-style taste here and there, such as the Hawaiian, with pineapple and bacon. (But the kids find the skimpy sauce not to their accustomed taste.) For grown-ups, we suggest the tender, crisply fried calamari with tomato sauce, and, for both adults and kids, the lasagna with its rich meat and besciamella sauces. Soups vary daily but seem always to hit the spot; the potato-pancetta winter offering is a warming example. Everything here is done with top-flight ingredients, such as mozzarella di bufala. Reasonably priced wines, heavy on Italian choices, with first-rate offerings by the glass, make an appropriate wine list for this type of casual operation. Baraonda is ideal for before or after performances at the nearby Fox Theatre.
