Barbara Jean's Restaurant Review: If you have a hankering for Southern home-style fare, scan the menu for your favorite comfort food. Staples include slow-cooked pot roast and a golden chicken fried steak that covers half the plate. Or opt for the house specialty---Eastern Shore-style crab cakes with pure lump crab meat and no fillers. From a roster of 14 fresh veggies, choose two with your entrée. Sometimes the “vegetable” of the day is macaroni and cheese. Beforehand, nibble from the basket of homemade whole-wheat yeast rolls, jalapeño cornbread and pumpkin bread. Service is cheerful, and portions generous. Dessert is almost mandatory, especially for chocolate lovers. The Chocolate Stuff---yes, that’s what it is called---is a rich, warm, gooey confection in which each spoonful tastes like melting fudge. |
