When a craving for ribs strikes, we often turn to this old-timer with its several locations in Northern Virginia and Maryland. Just stand outside and smell the hickory smoke trailing on the breeze-it’s enough to whet anyone’s appetite. You’ll find sandwiches of pulled pork or beef and platters of sausages and cut-up chickens, but why tamper with perfection? Ribs come in generous, meaty portions and a juicy half slab is more than enough for two people or two meals (if it lasts that long). Add on such sides as their vinegary greens and sweet-spicy barbecue beans and sit down to a feast. The décor is low-key and not at all glamorous, but you’ll be too busy with the ribs to notice.
