THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Barrel Down Restaurant Review:
Barrel Down in downtown Los Angeles is an "American beer hall" with a hip, urban feel thanks to high ceilings, concrete and brickwork. (Be aware that the noise level can be high.) The long bar, which is outfitted with 40 taps, runs along one side of the space and is flanked by a communal table and booths. Farther back is more seating in a rectangular section with banquettes and small, circular tables. The sidewalk patio out front faces Seventh Street. In addition to the all-American craft beers, there's also a short wine list and several specialty cocktails including a signature Old Fashioned. Executive chef Jimmy Bustillos has departed the restaurant and chef Chris Tan has put his spin on the menu. Cauliflower popcorn with celery-truffle aioli is a fun dish to share. The simple menu continues with salads and sandwiches. Don't miss the burger topped with smoked cheddar. Sunday brunch features bottomless sparkling wine cocktails. General manager Andrea Comegys keeps a watchful eye on this bustling spot.
