THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Barrio Restaurant Review

: The scene heats up late here with a crowd of polished Downtowners in groups and couples on first dates. The mood is utterly eclectic. The name suggests Latino heat, and the décor combines modern fixtures like a blue neon sign and a glowing red plastic wall with pre-Columbian-looking urns and an abstract bas relief behind the bar. The menu does not suggest a particular cuisine upon first look. You can start with a salad of curried goat cheese on a pastry disk with cilantro-spiked micro greens or crustacean ravioli in a buttery sauce. An entrée of sesame-crusted salmon with butternut squash and parsley spätzle was a treat, and halibut over truffle-scented tomatoes was tasty. The bouillabaisse was less than exciting. Desserts are ambitious but don?t quite work---the terrine of berries is really an upscale gelatin mold. Upon paying the bill you may wonder if you just ate a French meal without even realizing it.
