bashi Restaurant Review: Nestled adjacent to the pool and across from Catalina Kitchen, bashi is Terranea Resort’s Asian-fusion dining concept. Its interior is a mix of dark, austere tones and close-together tables, while the spacious patio areas are more in tune with an upscale-casual resort vibe. Servers enthusiastically guide guests through the generous menu of small plates. An ideal starter is the dim sum-like chicken dumplings. The shaking beef --- the most universally recommended dish --- is indeed the strongest. It’s lovingly tender, with just the right notes of seasoning, but add a hint of the lime sauce on the side for more acidic complexity. Unfortunately, the ingredients don’t meld as well in the five-spice roast duck salad. Somehow, the duck ends up bland and the salad salty. The Shanghai-style noodles, on the other hand, are solid in garlicky goodness. It can be ordered with beef, chicken or shrimp, but is just fine on its own as a vegetarian dish. To end the meal, the red bean pot de crème is a bit more typical of restrained Asian desserts, while the creamy rice pudding is a better choice for sweets lovers. Exotic sodas like tamarind peach and coconut are made in-house daily.
