The emphasis at The Basin is on fresh, local ingredients with an updated Mediterranean menu focusing mostly on Spain and Italy. Start with croquetas---serrano ham, chicken and onion-béchamel rolled in breadcrumbs and fried until golden. Also try the pizza “bacon & egg” with extra virgin olive oil and aged pecorino cheese. Salads are classic and include the Ice “Burger” with blue cheese, green onions, lemon and pancetta; and a house-rendition of the Caesar substituting organic Little Gem lettuce for romaine. Entrées range from thick cut short rib braised in red wine to wild mushroom rigatoni, paella, slow-braised lamb shank and a premium steak offering from Painted Hills. A small wine list and cocktails are available to wash it all down. The ambience has a charming, relaxed, small-town feel and service is friendly. Enjoy dining al fresco on the patio under the canopy of one of California’s grand oak trees, estimated to be 200 years old and 120 feet high.
