THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bastide Restaurant Review:

BASTIDE, WHICH EXPERIENCED A NUMBER OF INCARNATIONS IN ITS LIFE ON MELROSE PLACE, HAS CLOSED Owner Joe Pytka's Bastide now features a more casual bistro menu and an intriguing co-tenant. The restaurant shares space with Assouline, the prestigious art and travel publisher which has a sixth arrondissement flagship bookstore that is a Paris landmark. The bungalow housing this odd couple retains the charming, sophisticated look created by French designer Andrée Putman for the original Bastide, and the two businesses appear, surprisingly, to function rather harmoniously. The olive tree-shaded patio is as lovely as ever, and funky Ingo Maurer lamps and furniture designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí add character to the interior spaces. The kitchen, now overseen by Sydney Hunter III, turns out a contemporary cuisine. The wine list may feature such gems as Henri Bonneau 1996 Chateau-Neuf-du-Pape ($159).
