Beach City Grill Restaurant Review: Instead of linens, glass-topped beach towels cover the tables at this funky mainstay. Chef/owner Larry Hodgson, who grew up in Aruba and served in the Peace Corps in Paraguay, draws from myriad ethnic cuisines when creating dishes for the frequently changing menu. We enjoy his black bean soup with cilantro and lime, yam and spinach tacos, blackened and lemon-garlic shrimp, seafood gumbo, vegetable mole with rice and grilled zucchini, and mahi mahi with bacon-jalapeño mac ‘n’ cheese. Hodgson also makes the desserts, which include such concoctions as Aztec chocolate-habanero cheesecake, fried plantains with ice cream, Key lime crème brûlée, and No Fear pie --- a dense block layered with white chocolate, almonds, English toffee, butterscotch chips and caramel.
