Beach House Cafe Restaurant Review: With a relaxed atmosphere and windows dominating its white façade, Beach House Café recalls a quaint seaside retreat. Only the avenue view and the absence of sand beneath your feet keep you anchored in Old Greenwich. In the Oval Bar, sky-blue and pale sea foam hues and a smattering of grassy marsh plants further the shoreline motif, while black-on-white cushions and murals add vaguely urban touches to the dining room. The menu follows suit, keeping the contemporary coastal American fare invitingly simple. Choose one of the fresh salads to start, such as the seafood Cobb salad with shrimp, scallops, hard-boiled egg, bacon, avocado and fish in a charred tomato vinaigrette. Otherwise, begin with the crispy calamari frisée with avocado and sambal dressing. Explore the fruits of the sea further and try the New England cracker-crusted codfish served over a creamy clam chowder with broccoli and leeks, or the ale-battered fish ‘n’ chips with tartar sauce and a side of coleslaw. Of course, as befitting a beach house, there are plenty of fruity cocktails to be had, as well as a well-rounded wine list with many affordable bottles to complement the fare.
