Beachwood Cafe Restaurant Review:

Beachwood Canyon’s former Village Coffee Shop has been revamped into the stylish Beachwood Café, thanks to owner Patti Peck (Millie’s, The Edendale Grill) and Silver Lake architect Barbara Bestor. By day, sunshine streams into the airy room accented with blue and yellow geometric tile and mod wooden chairs, and it becomes a buzzing social meeting place for Beachwood denizens, young local families and hillside hipsters. You can get two eggs any style, but more compelling breakfasts include poached eggs over braised greens with harissa. At night, the space remains a lively neighborhood haunt. Little delights have included house-made nashi pickles, warm bacon puff pastry cookies, and a rich corn and orzo braised in cream with smoked bacon. The cheese plate is deftly chosen, and goes well with the artisanal beers. Try the flavorful butcher’s cut of beef, or the seared scallops on coconut black rice with gingery taro stems, tamarind and fresh pineapple. Our favorite finish takes us straight to Provence, with redolent honey-lavender crème brûlée.
