| New York has been overrun lately with modern steakhouses whose sights are set on reinventing the classic meat-and-potatoes meal. Ben Benson's, however, has been serving dry martinis and hefty slabs of good steak to its clientele for years, and seems in no hurry to change. The thick plates, wooden floors, dim lights and cigar smoke---to say nothing of the waiters' butcher smocks and the noticeable absence of waitresses---help contribute to the authentic Old-World atmosphere. |
