| Benjamin's is your quintessential neighborhood spot, the kind that sees a steady stream of regulars who come back because of the restaurant's lack of pretension and "aim to please" attitude, along with the menu of American and eclectic fare. Its wood panel and open window exterior and warm wood and leather interior with a long stretch of bar in the front creates an upscale tavern-like atmosphere. Lunch, brunch, dinner and daily specials cater to families and night owls alike. Dinner fare includes a grilled mushroom trio (cremini, portobello and shiitake) on herb polenta, and pork and chive pot stickers with scallion soy sauce and pickled ginger. Among entrées, we recommend the thin-crust pizzas and pastas, and seafood selections like the grilled halibut with eggplant, a spicy grilled plum salsa and pita chips, and a "Better than Mom's" meatloaf with mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy and sautéed vegetables. The wine list, while sticking mostly to California, has many affordable options by the glass and bottle. |
