| Smack dab in the corazon of one of Denver’s hippest parts of town, Benny’s draws heavy crowds hungry for a dose of Mexican fare. But it’s hard to figure out just why, as the food here is some of the most pedestrian in Denver. The south-of-the-border dishes are devoid of flavor, presentation or reward, and while the prices are cheap, so is the value. The low-brow surroundings and reluctant servers don’t help matters. But still the regulars come, wolfing down hangover curing breakfast burritos, greasy beef tacos and weak green chile. In search of a hangover? Benny’s serves government-issue margaritas and a slew of Mexican beers, perfectly suited for the required post-dinner palate cleansing. |
