Don’t mistake this affordable vegetarian “Curry Hill” restaurant for a snack shop. Walk past counters of subcontinental sweets to the back room where light fixtures are made of wine bottles and the ceiling is lined with flashy woks. The menu here focuses on northwest India and much of the tapas-size dishes---chaats, thalis, and other Indian snacks and street foods---may be relatively unfamiliar to diners who don’t come from the region. Many of the dishes explode with bold flavors. Case in point: The sev puri are fried dough balls with tamarind and yogurt locked inside. The steamed lentil cakes were fluffy and savory and more subtle. And the ragara patties, steamed potatoes with yellow peas, had a sizzling kick.
