| Big 4 Restaurant at The Huntington Hotel celebrates the era of the four railroad tycoons for whom the restaurant is named. Mid-nineteenth century San Francisco is captured in the historic images of trains, horses and maps that line the dark wood walls. Forest-green leather banquettes and leaded glass mirrors contribute to the handsome, gentleman's club atmosphere. So does the presence of wild game on the menu---from buffalo to ostrich, alligator to rattlesnake. Power lunchers also enjoy classics like Caesar salad, crab cakes, chicken potpie and sautéed petrale sole. The evening promises more candlelight and romance. Begin with the roasted corn bisque crowned with Dungeness crab or the smoked salmon on cornmeal blinis. Hearty entrées include cider-cured wild boar chop, filet mignon with wild morel mushrooms, and rack of lamb infused with a rosemary rub. The wine list is full of the best wines California has to offer. And for dessert don't miss the chocolate-espresso fondue with almond macaroons or the warm cherry upside-down cake. |
